“The Most Important Question You Will Ever Be Asked”
John 9:35-41

Proposition:  The most important question YOU will ever be asked is this:  “Do you believe in the Son of Man”?

Transition:  I call your attention to 4 actions relative to this question.

I.  I Want to make You Aware of the Question.  (vv. 35-37)  
 A.  It Concerns the Son of Man.
 B.  It Concerns Faith.

II.  I Want to Alert You to the Question. (v. 35)
 A.  It is a Simple Question.
 B.  It is a Personal Question.
 C.  It is an Important Question.
 D.  It is a Necessary Question.
 E.  It is a Direct Question.
 F.  It is a Demanding Question.

III.  I Want to Alarm You with the Question. (vv. 39-41)
 A.  The Question Results in Arbitration.
 B.  The Question has Wrong Answers.
   1.  Some Answer Noting Their Position.
   2.  Some Answer Noting Their Performance.

IV.  I Want You to Answer the Question. (v. 38)
 A.  You Must Believe.
 B.  You Must Believe Jesus is Lord.
 C.  Your Faith Must Result in Worship.

John 8:31-38

Proposition:  We must take great care to ensure we have true faith in Jesus for only such faith results in true freedom.

Transition:  I share with you  3 observations on the matter of faith from our text.

I.  There is a Faith which is False.
A.  This Faith Begins Well. (30)
B.  This Faith Does Not Continue. (31)
C.  This Faith Does Not Free. (32)

II.  There are Many Who have such Faith.
A.  They are Religious. (31)
B.  They Know of Jesus. (30)
C.  They Believe Something about Jesus. (30-31)
D.  They Profess Their Faith. (30)
E.  They Do Not Fool God. (30-31)
F.  They Abandon His Word. (31)
G.  They Will Not Repent. (33)
H.  They are Arrogant. (33)
I.  They are in Bondage.  (34)
J.  They Hate Christ. (37)
K.  They are Not of God. (38)

III.  They Need True Faith.
A.  Such Faith Dwells in God’s Word. (31)
B.  Such Faith Marks Christ’s Followers. (31)
C.  Such Faith Leads to the Truth. (32)
D.  Such Faith Produces True Freedom. (32)
1.  You are Free from Satan’s Power.
2.  You are Free from Spiritual Death.
3.  You are Free from Sin’s Condemnation.
4.  You are Free from Judgment.
5.  You are Free to Serve God.

"I Know Him": A Sermon Outline for Sunday, May 22, 2011

"I Know Him"
John 7:25-31

To know Jesus is to know God.  To know God is to know Jesus.
To worship Jesus is to worship God.  To worship God is to worship Jesus.

Proposition: Let us be absolutely certain we know Jesus, the Messiah, God in the flesh, sent by the Father on a mission of mercy.

Transition: Consider this truth in 2 observations from our text.

I.  See Those Who are Confused.
   A.  They are Regular People
      1.  They are Men and Women Like Us
      2.  They have Passions Like Us

They are just like us.

   B.  They are Religious People
      1.  They have Religious Advantages
         a.  They have the Word of God
         b.  They have their religious traditions
         c.  They have their godly history

      So do we.

      2.  They have Religious Education
         a.  They know a Messiah will come
         b.  They expect a Messiah will come
         c.  They were taught how Messiah would come.

      So do we.

      3.  They have Religious Experience
         a.  They have observed circumcision
         b.  They have received ceremonial washings
         c.  They have participated in synagogue services
         d.  They have joined in annual festivals.

      So do we.
      WE ARE JUST LIKE THEM!

   C.  They Do NOT KNOW GOD (28b)

      DO WE KNOW GOD?

II.  See the Evidences of Their Condition
   A.  They Consider Others and Not Themselves (25-26)

   B.  They Consider Their Knowledge Superior to God's Word (27)

   C.  They Responded to Jesus with Disregard (30)

   D.  They are Waiting for Something More (31)

   E.  Their Faith is NOT Saving Faith (31)

Is our faith saving faith?  Do we know Him?

“Seeing is NOT Believing”
John 6:36-37

Proposition:  Faith never begins with the eyes of man but with the grace of God.
Transition:  This wonderful truth is clearly taught by Christ in our text with 2 truths  He shares with us.

I.  The Character of Man is Miserable (v. 36).
A.  Observe Their Advantages.
     1.  Their Eyes Have Seen.
2.  Their Ears Have Heard.
3.  Their Legs Have Followed.
4.  Their Mouths Have Professed.
5.  Their Minds Have Considered.
    B.  Observe Their Actions.
          1.  They Demand More (see v. 30)
2.  They Fail to Believe.
           
II.  The Care of God is Marvelous (v. 37).
    A.  The Son’s Care is Seen in His Conserving.
B.  The Spirit’s Care is Seen in His Converting.
C.  The Father’s Care is Seen in His Choosing.
