Saved By Faith Youth Challenge (SBFYC 2011)

The SBFYC web site for next summer's conference is now active though the owners are still making updates.  I would encourage members to examine the site and pray about permitting your young person to attend next summer's session.  Paul Washer of Heart Cry Ministries will be the featured speaker.  Those who have heard Paul know what a blessing it is to listen to him preach the Word of God.

My family has attended the last 13 conferences and look forward to this one as well.

The SBFYC web site is here.

A Walk Through the Bible One Book at a Time

Tonight, Wednesday, October 20, we begin a lengthy study of the Bible.  Each Wednesday evening, except on business meeting nights, I will present a 15-20 minute study covering a book of the Bible.  We'll take an overview of the book, primary events, major doctrines taught, key verses and try to come to a better overall understanding of God's Word.  Given 66 books and roughly 48 available Wednesday evenings a year, our study will last into 2012!

Our first session tonight will present a high level overview of the Bible in general.  Then, on October 27, we will begin the book by book review with Genesis.

I encourage you to come and join us for this study and the prayer meeting which follows.

"The Stewardship of Grace": Sermon Outline for October 17, 2010

For those who have an interest, here is the outline of the message I preached yesterday.  This was a very difficult message for me to preach.  Perhaps you noticed how much I moved around on the platform during the sermon.  God was using my own words to step on my toes!  Each of us often fail to use the spiritual/grace gift God has given to us from time to time and, as a result, we let down the body of Christ rather than building up the body.  We also fail to glorify our Lord and present Him properly to the lost around us.  Thank goodness our Lord is a merciful and gracious God who forgives us.

So, let us repent and move forward in serving Christ!

“The Stewardship of Grace”
1 Peter 4:7-11

Proposition:  Believers, you and I are to be stewards of God’s grace.

Transition:  In this passage, Peter provides us with 3 key concepts we must grasp concerning our stewardship of grace.

I.  Understand the Manifestation of this Grace (v. 10)
A.  God’s Grace is Revealed in Gifts
B.  Believers Receive Gifts
C.  These Gifts are Diverse

II.  Understand the Management of this Grace (vv. 10-11a)
A.  Stewards are to Use the Gifts
B.  Stewards are to Use the Gifts to Serve
C.  Stewards are to Use the Gifts to Serve
     Each Other
D.  Stewards are to Use the Gifts
     Properly
E.  Stewards are to Improve the Gifts

III.  Understand the Mission of this Grace (v. 11b)
A.  We are to Bring Glory to God.
B.  We are to Bring Glory to God through
      Jesus Christ.

"Filling the Gaps"

As most of our church family knows, the Overtons are moving to Indiana before the end of 2010.  While we will greatly miss them, they see this move as the work of the Lord and, therefore, we rejoice with them!

Nevertheless, Kerry and Anne presently fill several positions in our church and we need someone to step in and "fill the gaps" resulting from their departure.  Both teach Sunday School classes, both serve on various committees, Anne maintains our Sunday bulletins and Wednesday prayer sheets, and Kerry is our church treasurer.  We need to have capable folks ready to step in and fill these important positions when the time comes.  In fact, it would be helpful for those volunteers to spend a few weeks working with Kerry and Anne so they can get a handle on what is required in these positions.

If you believe the Lord would have you serve in one or more of these positions:

1.  Please contact our Sunday School Director, Jon Bounds, if you would like to teach a Sunday School class.
2.  Please contact Sandy Brandel or Anne, our Nominating Committee, for the other positions.

If you have any questions on any of these positions, I strongly recommend you talk with Kerry and/or Anne.

Bethesda Bible Conference: Nursery Volunteer Needed

A.  We See the Electing Hand of God
B.  We See the Providential Hand of God

II.  Let Us Learn From the Confrontation  (vv. 7,9)
A.  Hear His Command
