“Resurrection!”

John 5:24-29

Proposition:  One of the most wonderful, remarkable, and encouraging doctrines of the Christian faith is that of resurrection.

Transition:  From our passage this morning, Jesus provides instruction to us on these 2 resurrections.

I.  The First Resurrection is a Spiritual One (vv. 24-26)

            A,  See the Importance of This Resurrection (“Truly, truly”)

            B.  See the Timing of This Resurrection (“is NOW here”)

            C.  See the Condition of Those Resurrected (“death”; “dead”)

            D.  See Their Situation Before This Resurrection (“judgment”)

            E.  See the One Performing This Resurrection (“voice of the Son of God”)

            F.  See the Outcome of This Resurrection

                        1.  They “will live”.

                        2.  They will have “eternal life”.

                        3.  They presently possess eternal life (“has”)

                        4.  This resurrection is permanent (“has passed”)

            G.  See the Evidences of This Resurrection

                        1.  Those Raised Hear Christ’s Word

                        2.  Those Raised Believe Christ and His Father

II.  The Second Resurrection is a Physical One (vv. 27-29)

            A.  See the Timing of This Resurrection (“hour is coming”)

            B.  See the Certainty of This Resurrection (“is coming”; “will hear”; “will come out”)

            C.  See the Participants of This Resurrection (“all who are in the tombs”)

            D.  See the One Performing This Resurrection (“Son of Man”)
