Good Friday "Tenebrae" Service

“Tenebrae” is a Latin word which means “darkness, shadow”.  The word became part of the motto of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century:  “post tenebras lux” which means “after darkness, light”.  The motto referred to the darkness of spiritual insight prior to the Reformation followed by the light of the Reformation.

The word is often used today for worship services held on the Thursday, Friday, or Saturday of the Passion Week.  These were days of darkness for Christ and His followers as He was arrested, beaten, sentenced, crucified, and buried.  Thank God we can celebrate “post tenebras lux” on Easter Sunday morning!

This year we are having a Tenebrae service, i.e., a Good Friday service.  The objective is to take us through the darkness of that Friday and prepare us for the celebration which follows on Sunday!

Our service will begin at 6:30pm on March 29 and last approximately 90 minutes.  Pastor Scott Lee of the Rockport Baptist Church in Arnold will deliver the message.  Please mark you calendar and plan on being here.  You won’t want to miss it!

If you need further information on this service or our church, please contact Pastor Bruce Walker at 636-233-0645.
